
International Workshop on Climate Change Education for a Sustainable Future and System Changes
On September 16, 2024, the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Laboratory (RSEL) successfully hosted the “๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฌ” as a part project “๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฌ (๐๐๐๐๐๐)”. The project was funded by ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐+ and the ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ง, in collaboration with ๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐ฆ๐๐ง๐๐ฎ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ (๐๐), ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐ง๐๐ก๐๐ฅ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ (๐๐), the ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ค๐ฎ (๐๐๐) in ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ and ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ & ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก in ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฌ.
There were over ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ from various countries to discuss the pedagogical approaches in climate change education across Nepal.
๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ก๐๐ง๐ข, Lead of RSEL at KU, initiated the workshop with welcome remarks emphasizing the need for enhanced climate education in Nepal. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ข๐ค๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐๐๐ค๐จ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข of Finland Futures Research Centre at UTU introduced the ACCESS project and shared insights into Finlandโs Climate Change University.
๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐ข๐ฃ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐, Vice-Chancellor of PU, discussed the importance of updating Nepalโs climate-related curriculum. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ฎ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฉรค๐ง๐๐ง, Senior Education Specialist at the Embassy of Finland in Nepal, highlighted the EUโs commitment to supporting climate education in Nepal and shared success stories from Finlandโs climate-smart education system.
๐๐ข๐ฃ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ก, Assistant Country Director of UNDP Nepal, stressed the need for sustainable climate adaptation strategies suited to Nepal’s unique conditions. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ข๐ง๐จ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐ญ from KUSOED and ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ก๐๐ก from PU gave insights into climate change courses at their universities. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฌ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ of Wageningen University advocated for skill-based education and student-centered learning to higher education to address climate change.
๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐๐จ๐ค๐ก๐ซ๐๐ฅ, Dean of KUSOE, reflected on the importance of climate literacy in empowering future generations to tackle environmental challenges.
The workshop concluded with expert-led group discussions featuring ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ฒ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ง๐ (๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐, ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ), ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐๐ฅ (๐๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ข ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ), ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฅ (๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ). ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐๐๐ข ๐๐ก๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ข, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Purbanchal University, provided closing remarks, recognizing the event as a significant step in advancing climate change education in Nepal.
